CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A Staten Island, N.Y., man faces up to 20 years in prison for supplying the synthetic drug known as "bath salts" to a video store operator in Virginia.
The government says 52-year-old Stephen Dominick McFadden was found guilty late Thursday on nine counts related to the delivery of the synthetic drug that mimics the effect of cocaine. A federal jury returned the verdict after a four-day trial in Charlottesville.
Law enforcement officials said McFadden was the primary source of bath salts for a local distributor and the former owner of the video store where the drugs were delivered. Prosecutors say the Charlottesville supplier, Lois McDaniel, has already pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy charges.
A sentencing date has not been set for McFadden. He also could be fined $1 million.
