WAYNESBORO,Va. (WHSV)-- The 'National Night Out' event involves police and members of the community coming together to take a stand against crime.
It's also happening in other places such as Staunton, Augusta County, and people say this event could help build stronger relationships between police and people in the community.
"It makes me feel a lot better, when you start working together, you'd be surprised, how much the crime goes down, or how much somebody will see something, didn't think it was a crime and talk to the police and actually solve it," said Jay Palmer, a supporter of National Night Out.
"I think the citizens will feel more comfortable approaching police officers or law enforcement, and maybe become more involved in the community," said Angie Pritchett, a Night Out supporter.
National Night Out will take place in over 15,000 communities across the country.
