Natural Gas Pipeline Proposed for Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Two companies are proposing to build a natural gas transmission line from the Appalachian region into Virginia.

EQT Corp. and NextEra Energy Inc. are teaming up on the 330-mile project that would support the growing demand for natural gas produced from the Marcellus and Utica shales. The proposed line would cross through West Virginia into southwest Virginia and have an initial expected delivery point in Pittsylvania County.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the pipeline, which requires federal regulatory approval, is expected to have a transmission capacity of at least 2 billion cubic feet per day.

EQT Corp. is based in Pittsburgh. NextEra Energy is based in Juno Beach, Fla.
