SUGAR GROVE, Wv -- Nearly 200 Navy sailors and their families will need to leave the Sugar Grove Naval Base in West Virginia.
Commander Bill Kramer said the National Security Agency does not need the services from that naval base anymore and that another tenant could take over and give the base a new mission. Right now, that is still uncertain.
"We have to plan for every scenario, so we have to plan for the worst case, so if someone hears that we're planning on completely disestablishing, closing, that's planning. As those words come available if a tenant is coming in or not coming in, I'll keep the public posted," said Commander Kramer.
Kramer says all they know right now is that the 187 sailors will have to relocate. As for the other workers on the base, he still does not know what is next for them. Kramer said this will definitely affect the community in some way, we just do not know how much yet.
He said he is working hard to make this a smooth transition for all the naval workers and their families. The move will not be complete until 2016.
