Neighbors React to Augusta Fatal Shooting

Several neighbors say the murder of Richard Orebaugh hits too close to home.

Richard Smith is wanted on three charges and is a person of interest in Wednesday's alleged robbery at a 7-Eleven store.

MT. SIDNEY, Va. (WHSV) -- Investigators are still looking for Richard Clay Smith, the man who allegedly shot and killed 80-year-old Richard Orebaugh, and then stole his car yesterday Thursday.

It was quiet along Grey Fox Road Friday, where police discovered Orebaugh shot along the 200 block of the street.

Several neighbors who did not want to go on camera said they could not have asked for a better neighbor to live next to.

Philip Birt lives down the street from the Orebaugh's home. He said he can't believe something like this would happen in their area.

"We normally don't have any incidents around here. Everybody pretty much minds their own business and it just seems to be a random act to me," Birt said.

Birt says he plans to take extra safety measures at his home in the future.
