STAUNTON, Va.--Neighbors in Staunton are getting ready for the school year by swapping school supplies instead of buying them.

It is part of Eco Swap, a monthly event where people can give items they no longer use and get some they may want.

This event on Sunday is for back to school. At the swap, you could find books, games and clothes for kids.

Organizer Christina Cain said neighbors asked for a back to school swap because of the need in the community.

Cain is with Staunton Creative Community Fund who helps put together the event.

She said she is not surprised with the low turnout.

"Today is the first sunshiny Sunday that we have had in months. However, I was really surprised on how much we received today...and seeing more people come with things to donate rather than take away, is really a testament of their generosity," said Cain.

The leftover donations will go to the Salvation Army and the Valley Mission.
