HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A Valley man is working to bring a new small business to Court Square.

Scott Asbell, a recent James Madison University graduate, is trying to put in a new bowling alley right next to Jess's Quick Lunch in Court Square. After taking over Shenandoah Bowling Lanes in Mount Jackson last year, he wanted to bring his love of small businesses to downtown Harrisonburg to keep money and business in the area.

He hopes by opening this bowling alley, more students will enjoy a "classic" kind of fun. He said it's important people put down the phones and take a step back from their busy lives.

"People just need a place to build relationships. It's easy to do that over a meal, but if you're on campus and you don't have a ton of money you can't do that and to really have a thing to go do in person and sit down and have fun is something that really doesn't happen all the time," Asbell said.

He also said hoped to have the money raised to build the alley this by this week, but unfortunately he is only about half-way towards his goal; however, he still hopes to have the bowling alley opened by September.
