HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- At Tuesday's school board meeting, Harrisonburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner will present the 2014-2015 budget, and members will discuss the capital improvement plan.

Part of the capital improvement plan includes completely replacing the heating and air conditioning system at Thomas Harrison Middle School. Architects will also present updates for a new school building.

Kizner said he will recommend a budget increase of a little more than $3 million, which would include money to cover new positions, new technology and health insurance increases. The $3 million would also include a pay raise for teachers.

"Teachers work extremely long hours. They have a very, very challenging and difficult job. They're under amazing levels of stress and accountability. Two percent is a minimal expectation," Kizner said. "I wish it could be much higher."

The meeting is tonight at 7 p.m. in Harrisonburg City Council chambers.
