The Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance announced on Monday that at least five businesses will open this year in downtown Harrisonburg.
The announcement was made during HDR's annual reception and celebration.
According to executive director, Eddie Bumbaugh, a new restaurant will open where Dave's Downtown Taverna used to be. Food Bar Food will open on West Bruce street next month.
In addition, the owner of Midtowne Market will open a business that sells beer and gourmet food on Water street next month.
The owner of Clementines will open Ruby's Arcade, which will be located under Wine Brothers building.
HDR said more businesses are stepping out of Main street.
"Each year, there are fewer opportunities right in the core and the downtown district is being built out and businesses are opening in the outlying area, which is exactly what we hoped to happen," said Bumbaugh.
HDR also celebrated 31 businesses that have opened in Harrisonburg in the past year, including five restaurants.
