WAYNESBORO, Va -- A new shop opened in downtown Waynesboro Thursday. It's the first of its kind in years to open in the area.
The "Sweet Bean" cafe opened its doors on West Main Street. The locally-owned shop sells coffee, pastries, and other baked goods. It is the first locally-owned coffee shop to open in downtown in almost six years.
People there say they hope the shop will give downtown Waynesboro a boost.
"It's overwhelming, it's really overwhelming, so people see that and they're like 'oh, they're in downtown Waynesboro, they're doing well, lets see what they got going on, lets see what we can add to what all is going on in downtown Waynesboro," said Carrie Boyd, who is the owner. "it's another place for them to come and support locally, and I think that's really important."
"I think it will bring in a lot of more people and everything so I think it will be good for other businesses also," said Katie Morris, who is a customer.
More than 150 people came through on the first day.
