New Details: Staunton Man Attacked by Bear in West Virginia

HARDY COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources set traps for the female bear on Aug. 22. These traps were set after the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says the bear attacked 59-year-old Steven Krichbaum of Staunton, Virginia, after his dog went after her two cubs.

Krichbaum and the dog escaped when he hit the bear with a rock. The attack occurred on Aug. 21 in the George Washington National Forest in Hardy County.

Krichbaum drove to a market in Frederick County, Virginia, and was taken to a hospital.
