Norfolk Woman Dies after Being Rescued from Fire

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The Norfolk Fire Department says an 83-year-old woman who was rescued from a house fire has died.

The department tells media outlets that firefighters removed the woman from the burning house Friday afternoon. She suffered burns and smoke inhalation and died at a local hospital Saturday morning.

The woman's name hasn't been released.

The department says the house's smoke alarms weren't working.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
