Number of People Infected with Lyme Disease Growing in Virginia

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Virginia is now one of the most common states for Lyme disease cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It has jumped from impacting 30,000 people across the United States, to 300,000 during the past few years.

People usually get tick bites which cause the disease, after outdoor activities.

Multiple medications and a change in diet, are a normal part of easing the pain. Symptoms may include rash, fever, headache, and extreme tiredness.

Tammy Breeden has been suffering from the disease for four months. She didn't even know it was Lyme disease until the diagnosis.

"I didn't know what was going on. I mean, she told me I had the flu, but after I turned up with the rash, she ran the Lyme test and put me on steroids. And then, I knew it had to be something more because I couldn't move," said Breeden.

Almost all cases of Lyme disease fall within thirteen different states, and Virginia is one of them. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
