STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- The attorney general recount began Tuesday in the Valley and so far, Mark Herring's 165-vote lead has decreased.
After Tuesday's recount, the Waynesboro registrar reports that Mark Obenshain picked up one vote.
In Staunton, the registrar said Obenshain received a net gain of three votes.
Election officials were locked inside a conference room Tuesday morning recounting each and every one of the ballots.
In Waynesboro, registrar Lisa Wooten took part in her seventh recount.
She said it went smoothly, but explained the emotions leading up to Tuesday's recount.
"On election night you're thinking, and election day, you're thinking, 'I don't care who wins, I just want it to be a landslide.' And then when you start seeing how close it is, it's like, 'We're going to go through this again.' And it's within the candidate's right, and I think anybody with that close of a margin would call for it," said Wooten.
The process took several hours and registrars in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County reported their official results to Richmond.
