WAYNESBORO, Va (WHSV) -- A sad day for people working at the F.R. Drake company in Waynesboro as police investigate the death of 38 year-old Jeffery Scott Earhart.
David Sitler works next to F.R. Drake and just found out about the murder minutes before he spoke with us.
"It's very concerning that any type of violence could happen at the workplace especially a murder," Sitler said, "It just concerns me about the state of affairs in society."
At around 7:20 Thursday morning, Waynesboro Fire and Rescue were called to F.R. Drake where they found Earhart unresponsive. When rescuers arrived here to the F.R. Drake company, they found a gunshot wound to the man's midsection, they tried to revive him but their efforts were lost.
Police say 54 year-old Boyd William Wiseman ran away from the scene before they arrived, but later turned himself in.
"A subject appeared in the police department lobby here and at that point implicated himself with the shooting at Drake," said Capt. Kelly Walker with the Waynesboro Police Department.
Wiseman was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Police are now trying to piece together a motive for the shooting.
"The investigation hasn't revealed any factors outside of work that would have impacted the situation," said Captain Walker.
Surely, a sad day for many here who have work knowing one of their own is gone and another is behind bars.
