This week marks the one year anniversary for the Friendly City Food Co-Op in Harrisonburg.

Over the past year, the grocery store had an impact on not only the community, but on dozens of farmers in the Valley.

Neva Whetzel owns Golden Angels Apiary in Singers Glen and she said selling her honey at the co-op has helped her business.

She is not the only one who benefited. Friendly City's Marketing Director said the store is the first of its kind in Harrisonburg. She said the co-op business model helps the local economy all around.

The co-op said more than a thousand people own the store.

Tomorrow there will be a 'birthday celebration' for the one year. There will be music, free food and cooking demos.
