Page County Superintendent Resigns

PAGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Page County Schools Superintendent Donna Power unexpectedly retired effective immediately Wednesday.

Power submitted a letter of resignation to the Page County School Board. The letter stated that that she thought it would be in best interest to retire before the new school year so school board members could work on finding a replacement.

Assistant Superintendent Donna Whitley-Smith will serve as acting superintendent until at least Monday, when the school board is scheduled to meet. She has been with the school system for 40 years.

"We're going to pull together to make sure school opens as normal," said Whitley-Smith.

Children in Page County head back to school on Aug. 25.
