WASHINGTON (AP) Those who are longing for spring in Washington will soon find out when the city's cherry blossom trees are likely to bloom and how the long winter has affected the buds.
On Tuesday, the National Park Service is expected to announce the predicted peak bloom dates for the trees.
Organizers are also announcing plans for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It's scheduled to run for three weeks from March 20 to April 13. The festival features a wide variety of events celebrating the trees and Japanese culture.
This year marks the 102nd anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees from Japan as a symbol of friendship with the United States.
