Waynesboro Police are investigating a hit and run that killed a 56-year-old woman.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday along Stuarts Draft Highway at the intersection with Grandview Drive.
Police found the body of Betty Marcelle Wheeler of Waynesboro in the northbound lanes. She had been hit by a vehicle.
The only description of the vehicle at this time is it may possibly be silver in color and has damage to the front end.
The northbound lanes were closed to traffic for about three hours while investigators processed the accident scene.
Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team processed the accident scene.
The Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew.
