Staunton, Va. (WHSV) -- With the amount of snow expected Tuesday, it's time to get your shovels ready. It also may be time to check in with your municipality for rules on shoveling snow.

In Staunton, residents and business owners must remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall and must use salt and other chemicals to remove ice within 12 hours if it forms.

"Safety first, convenience second. We want our customers and the people traveling downtown to know that we're thinking of them, and we want them to be as comfortable as they can be, walking through six to eight inches of snow," said C.B. Bellerose, an artist in downtown Staunton.

Bellerose said he will help to shovel snow in front of the gallery where he works.
