ELKTON, Va. -- Millions of people are suffering from lottery fever with just two days until the big Powerball jackpot drawing.
Right now it's the third highest amount ever at $400 million.
Donnie Meadows says he usually plays Mega Millions but with a big jackpot like this on, he'll just play random numbers for that chance to win.
"I figure if it's going to happen it's going to happen, regardless of what the numbers are," said Meadows.
Elkton Exxon cashier Gage Lee says he's getting more business for the Powerball game. As for the best strategy, he says it varies with every customer.
"It's about 50-50, everybody has the same numbers they'll play every time," said Lee. "Everybody's got their own lucky numbers."
No matter what your strategy, Executive Director for Virginia Lottery Paula Otto says it only takes one ticket to win, but there are trends with big games.
"Often times when we get into these huge jackpots you find that it is a computer pick that wins just because you have so many people who play the game who don't normally play the game," said Otto.
Whether it's a strategy or just luck, your chances of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 175 million.
That's not stopping many people from playing.
"You can spend 100 dollars if you want to but maybe the person who spends one dollar gets it," said Meadows.
Otto says most people wait until the day of the drawing, in this case, Wednesday, to buy their tickets for big games.
She says the money raised for Virginia Lottery helps schools in the state.
