WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Winchester Police Department arrested a man Thursday evening for stealing a number of items from a home in the city.

Matthew James Elliott, 27, is charged with grand larceny.

On July 8, officers responded to the 300 block of Fairview Avenue for a burglary. A man said he came home to find that someone had broken into his house and stolen a number of his firearms, a knife, a gaming system, and lawn equipment.

An investigation led detectives to Elliott, who they arrested on Thursday at about 6 p.m. and taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center where he was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

All of the items taken from the home on Fairview Avenue were recovered. Additional charges are pending.
