STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- Staunton police have charged a Verona man with 15 felony counts connected to five burglaries that occurred in the past few months in both Augusta County and Staunton.
Michael Weeks, 23, was arrested last month, both the Augusta County Sheriff's Office and the Staunton Police Department are involved in this case.
Weeks was already connected to two home burglaries that happened in the Verona area and these new charges stem from five burglaries that happened in the Staunton area, especially in the northern part of the city. According to police, more instances might not have been reported.
Investigators said he had a similar way of breaking into houses by either going through the back of the house or going through a basement window, according to search warrants in the case filed in Augusta County Circuit Court.
Investigators found jewelry at his house and according to the warrants, he was selling the things he stole to pawn shops.
Weeks now faces six charges in Augusta County and 18 charges in Staunton.
Some neighbors who lived near the homes that were burglarized didn't know about the incidents and say the area is usually safe, while others said they've seen more police presence lately.
