Police Ramp Up Patrols During St. Patrick's Weekend

HARRISONBURG -- St.Patrick's Day is just about here. This weekend, police officers in the Valley aren't afraid to crack down.

Harrisonburg police will have more officers on the streets for the weekend's holiday. They will have various check points through out the city. Officers will also focus on traffic violations.

Harrisonburg police Sergeant Pete Ritchie said, he wants everyone to use their head.

"The best advice I can give you...if you are going to go out and celebrate, and drink alcohol- don't drive. It's about the best advice I can give you," said Ritchie.

Sergent Ritchie said,the best way to make sure you are safe, is to have a designated driver.
He also said there are many taxi services in the area. Best thing you can do is be smart.
