HARRISONBURG (WHSV) -- A 9-year-old girl is recovering after being bitten in the face by a dog this past weekend at a Strasburg park during a sporting event.

Police remind people to not take their dogs to sporting events to avoid problems like this.

In Harrisonburg's parks, dogs have to be kept on leashes. A similar incident occurring in Harrisonburg is something parents said they're not too worried about.

"I try to keep an eye on them all the time. I have various ages, so we kind of keep an eye on each other's. They basically know to stick close," shared Susan Layne when asked about keeping her kids safe at the park.

"I've been here enough times that we haven't had experiences with dogs off leashes or anything," added Karen Mirabella, who had her kids out for the day at Hillandale Park.

The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office continues investigating the incident from the weekend.
