Police Report Accidents Due to Weather

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- If you're out driving, you may have noticed some fender benders.

Harrisonburg police said there were half a dozen accidents because of weather on Sunday.

All of the accidents were minor. Police say people lost control of their vehicles or ran off the road because of snow and ice.

Plenty of people still ventured out to Walmart and other stores, despite the weather.

Harrisonburg Police recommend keeping your distance from other cars and also giving yourself more time as you go to work Monday morning.

"Conditions out on the road are pretty bad right now as far as vehicle traffic because you have this slushy ice mixture that's really slippery. And even though you might be driving a four wheel drive vehicle, they slip in the snow too so no guarantees," said Sergeant Pete Ritchie.

There are not extra Harrisonburg police patrols working Sunday.

Police say the fact that people usually stay home on Sundays is also helping cut down on crashes.
