WAYNESBORO -- Police say a Stuarts Draft woman will likely face a felony hit and run charge for causing a series of car crashes Wednesday night while driving drunk.
At about 8:55 p.m., police responded to a report on the 1800 Block of East Main Street of a three car crash with one of the cars driving away.
Investigators say a Kia Sorento, driven by a 64-year-old Waynesboro man, was struck by a hit and run driver and that impact caused the man to hit a parked Plymouth sedan. The driver and his 61-year-old woman passenger went to Augusta Health for non-life threatening injuries. The damage to both the Kia and the Plymouth is estimated at $10,000.
At 9:05 p.m., during the time officers were investigating the first crash, they received a call for another crash on the 700 block of South Delphine Avenue. Police say a Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Michelle Lynn Powell, 42, of Stuarts Draft, crossed over the median and hit a Kia head on and then hit a utility a pole. Both cars were totaled. The condition of the Kia driver, a 44-year-old New Hope woman, is not known.
Investigators say Powell showed “obvious signs of intoxication” at the time of her arrest. Powell was treated at the scene for minor injuries and then police arrested her for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police say her blood alcohol level was .20.
Powell is being held at Middle River Regional Jail. She will be given a bond hearing when she is sober and police say she will likely face a felony hit and run charge for the first charge.
