Rockingham County, VA (WHSV) -- UPDATE: 12:51 a.m. 2/16/2014
Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson has confirmed that a woman is dead after a shooting at the Dry River Store near Dayton. The man who owns the store is currently at UVA Medical Center. Sheriff Hutcheson says they believe robbery is a motive.
Sheriff Hutcheson says a man fled the scene of the shooting at the Dry River Store on foot. Sheriff Hutcheson describes suspect as slim black male, wearing a green vest and a knit cap. Sheriff Hutcheson says a handgun was used in the shooting.The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office will release a picture of the suspect, once they work through the surveillance footage.
Sheriff Hutcheson says they are not sure what was taken from the store, but they do believe robbery is a motive.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including State Police, Virginia Conservation Police and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office.
UPDATE: 10:30 p.m. 2/15/2014
Clover Hill Road is open again, but a suspect from the incident is on the loose. Police continue their investigation.
A reporter on scene says there has been an allegedly deadly robbery at the Dry River Store near Dayton.
We're told the man who owns the store has been flown to UVA Medical Center. We're also told the owner's wife was killed in the incident.
Rockingham County Dispatchers say police are investigating.
As of 8 p.m., Clover Hill Road is shut down by deputies, and they're not letting people past the road block in place.
We have a crew on the way to the scene for an update. We're also waiting to hear back from the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office about the investigation that we're told is ongoing.
