WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- A new psychedelic drug is being called deceptively dangerous.
Jonathan Goalder Brower, 25, of Waynesboro, was arrested on April 27 and charged with a felony, possession of a schedule 1 drug. That was the Waynesboro Police Department's first arrest in connection with the drug, 25i. It is a hallucinogen, like LSD.
Police said they are still learning the full effects of the drug, but know that it's very dangerous. They say the drug can present a challenge because it doesn't look harmful.
"They might see a smoking device, like a pipe those are readily identifiable as illegal drugs or used for illegal drug consumption. Hypodermic needles, things like that. Here we're looking at blotter papers, something that looks very innocent," said Sgt. Brian Edwards with the Waynesboro Police Department.
Edwards said the battle against drugs is constant.
"It seems to be that once we get a new drug that comes out, like bath salts, we combat it, try to eradicate it, and when we're done with that a new substance becomes available," said Edwards.
Edwards says they just recently started testing for the drug because it was just made illegal back in November.
