WINCHESTER -- Police arrested a Stephens City woman on a charge of animal cruelty.
The Winchester Police Department says it received a call of a dog locked in a truck on South Pleasant Valley Road. When officers arrived, they say the dog was in distress.
Officers took the dog to an animal hospital. They say the dog's body temperature was 106.8 degrees. The police department says temperatures above 103 degrees are dangerous to dogs.
Tammy Fiddler is charged with animal cruelty.
The police department wants to remind the public that it can take just a few minutes for the inside of a vehicle to get dangerously hot.
