A new policy with Virginia's community college system means students can no longer carry guns on campus.
The policy started at the beginning of the semester. System representatives said they wanted a consistent policy for all of their schools.
Students can be disciplined if they have a weapon on campus, but visitors with weapons can carry. Some students said the state doesn't forbid having guns on public campuses, and they will keep fighting the policy.
"If I was in the mood to answer them truthfully and say yes I was carrying and they attempted to expel me, we'd be in this court house by the end of the very next day asking a judge to decide whether colleges and universities, public colleges and universities, have the ability to enact their own firearms policies," said Blue Ridge Community College student David Briggman.
The state's system is made up of 23 colleges: which have all become gun free.
