HARRISONBURG, Va.-- As election day gets closer, a recent poll calls the Virginia attorney general race the most competitive.

Republican candidate Mark Obenshain asked voters for his support in this close race on Friday. His supporters held a send off before Tuesday's election.

During the event, he reminded supporters the importance of voting on Nov. 5.

According to a Christopher Newport University, Obenshain has a two point lead over Democratic candidate Mark Herring.

WHSV asked him if he thinks the backlash against Republicans after the government shutdown affected the race.

"I am running a positive message across Virginia during the whole campaign and we are just going to continue to do that. I am going to let the political scientists and talking heads figure out what has impacted this race," said Obenshain.

The polls have gone back and forth between Obenshain and Herring.
