HARRISONBURG -- A power company has received complaints from businesses which have fallen for the scam.

Scammers will call and threaten customers with disconnection of their power if they do not provide a prepaid debit card payment.

"They should certainly not go out and get a prepaid debit card and if they have any question about their account with their utility they should call their utility to discuss the issue. Utilities will not call you and ask you for payment," said Brian O'Dell, the General Manager of the Harrisonburg Electric Commission.
