HARRISONBURG, Va. Before venturing out into the cold weather, it is important to prepare for anything that could happen, including getting stuck in your car or needing to stay warm in case of an emergency.

Tim Leach, the owner of Blazer Driving Academy, shared his top three tips on how to prepare yourself before driving out in the cold.

First, he said it is important to start your car ahead of time to make sure you won't need to find alternate transportation.

Secondly, he said it is important to keep a safety kit in your car. He said it is important to always carry a blanket in your trunk in case you do break down along the side of the road.

Finally, he suggests telling a friend where you are going and texting them when you arrive so they know you arrived safely.
