Prescribed Burn Sending Up Smoke in Valley

Rockingham County, VA -- Fire crews are prepping about 4,500 acres of George Washington National Forest for a prescribed burn.

They want to you to know that if you see smoke in parts of Rockingham and Page counties, that's most likely what it's from.

It includes both Second Mountain and Third Mountain of Massanutten Mountain, which lies in Page and Rockingham Counties.

Fuels such as grass, leaves, and brush accumulate and create fire hazards. By burning the area under controlled conditions these fuels are removed.

That decreases the amount of fuel that is available to burn during a wildfire.
