President Obama Meets With Mandela Family

JOHANNESBURG (AP) President Obama is in South Africa and was joined at a press conference with South African President Jacob Auma. President Obama also met with some of Nelson Mandela's family member's during his visit.

President Obama met privately with two of Mandela's daughters and several grandchildren. Obama did not meet with Mandela out of respect for the Mandela's family's wishes.

"Our thoughts and those of Americans and people around the world are with Nelson Mandela and his family and all of South Africans. The struggle here against apartheid, for freedom, Madiba's (Mandela's) moral courage, this country's historic transition to a free and democratic nation has been a personal inspiration to me. It has been an inspiration to the world and it continues to be," said President Obama.

Nelson Mandela remains in the hospital in critical condition.
