ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- Now that the teen who crashed and killed a toddler has been convicted, some people in the Belmont Estates neighborhood hope this case stands as a wake-up call for other drivers.

Vilas Steckley, the president of the Belmont Estates Association, said this tragic case proves that speeding can be a problem. He hoped this case would continue to have an impact on drivers, even though a recent Virginia Department of Transportation study didn't find any speeding issues in that area.

"They don't always bear the truth in that, so after that, of course everyone slowed down, so it's somewhat skewed, but the good thing is people have continued that behavior, which is fantastic, so hopefully it'll continue," said Steckley.

The driver of the accident in August was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in court last night.
