HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Harrisonburg School Board members are meeting on Tuesday night and plan to have an open discussion about the new elementary school building and the renovations to Thomas Harrison Middle School.
In addition to modernizing Thomas Harrison, one of the big renovations to be made is the need to fix the heating and air conditioning inside the building.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner said the goal of Tuesday's public discussion is to have the community be aware of where the new elementary school will be built and who the architects will be.
Kizner said currently, multiple locations are being reviewed and the goal is to have the new school up and running by 2017.
One mother who has a child at Thomas Harrison said she is excited to see the new changes in the school.
"Better learning environment definitely because there are more facilities and more convenience. No longer need to go elsewhere to do any kind of activities because I feel like the school will be the better place for everybody," said Najla Mangoush, a mother of Thomas Harrison student.
In future meetings, more public input will be heard for specific designs for the building and each project.
The meeting is Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the council chambers.
