Purcell Park Celebrates 60th Anniversary

HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV)-- In 1954, Patty Huffman's grandfather donated part of his land to the creation of Purcell Park after fearing that kids playing in the street could get hit by passing cars. Her father also convinced neighbors to donate and help in it's construction.

On Jul. 19, Huffman's family held a reunion at the park to remember the role their father played to the community.

"I think it's just amazing what one person can do when he gathers others and then they all work together to make something happen," said Patty Huffman.

The family plans to hold another reunion at the park next year.
