Gov. Bob McDonnell just came out with a new mobile app you can download for free on your smartphone to stay safe in dangerous weather. It's called 'Ready Virginia' and you can just download it right from your app store on your phone. You can find out how to download it here: Be Mobile Ready press release
On it, you can find updates from the National Weather Service, checklists and safety tips depending on the situation.
For example, there's information on what to do in a flood or a power outage. Plus, you can find maps to your closest shelter.
The app can also help you create an emergency plan when the weather gets dangerous.
