ACCOMAC, Va. (AP) -- Court records show that authorities seized a plastic gas can and other items from the home of a former firefighter and his girlfriend who are suspected in a dozens of arsons on Virginia's Eastern Shore.
Tonya Bundick appeared in court Wednesday and was assigned a court-appointed attorney. She is due back in court May 6.
Her boyfriend, Charles R. Smith III, had his scheduled arraignment Wednesday postponed.
Court papers indicate that Smith confessed to setting the most recent fire on Monday.
The documents also show that Smith has a lengthy criminal record, including 31 felony convictions. Most stem from forgeries in 1994, for which he spent nearly a year in prison.
Smith's attorney was not available and his office said he would not comment.
