Red Cross Faces Funding Deficit

SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va. - The Red Cross has helped many families in our area and now needs your help as it faces a $250,000 disaster relief deficit.

The Red Cross has helped almost 70 people in our area since October. People with the agency said an increase in fires this winter, along with the increase in the size of families being helped this year, has led to the deficit.

"Not only have we seen an increase in the number of incidents we're responding to, but just like last night, we've seen an increase in the size of the families that we're supporting, so therefore, the costs go up for doing that, " said Red Cross Executive Director Bill Brent.

However, Brent says the funding shortage will not affect its operations.
