ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- Here in Virginia, the State Board of Elections is making progress in updating our voter registration roll. They found more than 10,000 people were listed as registered voters, who are actually dead.
To do this in time for November's election, the State Board of Elections used Social Security's death master file. This file helps find more dead people than the normal procedure they do monthly.
Rockingham County Registrar Doug Geib said he removed more than 50 people after the last review.
"We are not talking about people who are somehow committing voter fraud, and registering as dead people,” said Geib. “We're dealing with a list of names of people who were registered to vote at one time, and have since died."
Geib said he also checks the obituaries daily and removes those names as well.
