Replica Dinosaurs Make Grand Caverns Their Home

Grand Caverns is now home to some prehistoric creatures.

Three replica dinosaurs were a curious sight as they traveled up from Rockbridge County.

They are part of an attraction that Grand Caverns is placing along the biking trail.

Mark Cline, the dinosaur creator, is curious about how the public will receive the dinosaurs.

"We're going to keep them here and sort of test market them and see how well they do here. If they're popular, I've talked to Grand Caverns about doing a more permanent installation." says Mark Cline.

These three dinosaurs aren't the only ones in the permanent attraction.

He has plenty more where they came from.

"If this goes well, I'll probably be bringing in about 20 dinosaurs." says Mark Cline. "All in all, I've done maybe three or four hundred of them since Jurassic Park and that really set the bar for dinosaur creation."

This isn't the first place that his dinosaurs have been.

Mark Cline says, "We originally had them at my attraction called Dinosaur Kingdom on the property of Natural Bridge but Natural Bridge has recently gone up for sale so the whole future of that attraction was questionable. We had to find a new home for them."

Jeff Nicely, Grottoes town manager, thinks their new home at Grand Caverns will be a great fit.

"Its not really taking anything away from the park. They're back in the woods here, sort of a natural setting for, if you were a dinosaur you would be out in the woods." says Jeff Nicely

Mark Cline says, "So all I can say is if anyone that does want to come through here, they are made out of fiberglass so there is pretty much no chance of getting eaten."
