NELSON COUNTY, Va. -- The jury returned to the Nelson County Courthouse Friday morning for the opening day of the Randy Allen Taylor trial.

Prosecution began presenting its case this morning, revealing evidence collected by investigators. They say a shirt with Alexis' blood was found in Taylor's trailer, as well as strands of her hair on his pillow, false eyelashes, torn out hair extensions and finger or toe nails. A smashed cell phone said to belong to Alexis was also discovered on the property.

The defense argued there is not enough evidence to convict of murder beyond a reasonable doubt. They say there are signs of a fight, but not abduction or murder.

Alexis' mother, Laura Murphy, gave an emotional testimony to the court. She talked about how Alexis was excited for the new school year, and what her daughter looked forward to.

A gas station employee testified seeing Murphy and Taylor talking with one another. Surveillance video shows both driving away towards Taylor's home, and not towards Lynchburg where Murphy was supposed to be going.

Prosecutors are expected to present more evidence to the court over the next few days.
