WOODSTOCK, Va -- Rainwater from Hurricane Sandy flooded areas in Woodstock, completely destroying the Spring House Tavern's parking lot.

"It's happened before, but not anything to this extent," said Jim Papson, a chef at the restaurant.

On Tuesday, Papson got a look at all the damage and he said last night it was like a 7-foot high river flowed through the area.

"If you had a kayak, you'd be good kayaking."

The storm water was so strong it dug up their drain pipes and left the concrete in pieces.

"I mean it lifted concrete slabs up and moved them."

That was not the only thing the storm moved.

"I mean over here there's a telephone pole, so I mean it brought up everything."

Shenandoah County's Assistant Administrator Mary Price said it was a busy night with all the flooding, but Tuesday was about rebuilding.

"It's the after, after the storm, where our building inspection team needs to go out and do the assessment,” said Price. “There may be farm assessment that needs to be done, but I think overall we fared fairly well."

Papson said even though it looks bad, it could have been much worse.

"I mean we could've lost the restaurant,” said Papson. “You know we could've walked in this morning and could've had 6 feet of water in the restaurant. We didn't have any.”

He said luckily it was just their parking lot and their restaurant would be ready to open its doors for dinner that night. Papson said they hope to rebuild the parking lot on Thursday. He said it will be a lot of work, but he was glad for the most part that everything was okay.
