HARRISONBURG, VA- Thanks to some Good neighbors a piece of history will soon be restored at the Rockingham County Courthouse. The Rockingham Board of Supervisors gave the go ahead to move forward in the restoration of the historic Fiske statue.
Back in 1904, the statue sat on a fountain on the south side of the courthouse. The statue is called, "Girl Feeding Bird." Estimated costs of this project are around $17,000.00 and all funding will be provided thru the private Margaret Grattan-Weaver Foundation.
The Margaret Grattan Weaver Foundation benefits philanthropy, voluntarism and grant-making foundations. Clerk of Court Chaz Evans-Haywood says a man from the Smithsonian Museum was sent to Harrisonburg to find the historic Fiske statue and folks working at the courthouse found it in the basement.
The project is expected to be complete in about 6-7 months.
