After nearly two years of planning, Augusta County is getting a fire station in the Riverheads area.
The Augusta County Board of Supervisors plans to approve lease and service agreements for the new Riverheads Fire and Rescue Station Wednesday.
The new station will house volunteer firefighters and members of the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad.
Tomorrow's board approvals are the final step before contracts are signed and the station opens to serve the public.
"We've already done the Riverheads operating agreement, so we will do the Riverheads lease, SARS lease, SARS operating agreement, and the board approves them," says Riverheads District Supervisor Nancy Sorrells. "This isn't a signature tomorrow. It is just we approve them, and then at some point our county attorney will get together with their lawyers and we will make sure all the signatures are right, and the 'i's' dotted and 't's' crossed before we start running."
She says the community has been served well by nearby stations, but it is looking forward to having fire and rescue services close by.
