Rockingham County, VA -- A local girl hit by a car last fall is making progress in her long road to recovery.
With the donations that have poured in from the community since we first introduced to Eliza Pilipenko, the family has been able to get a table which helps her stand up like she could before the accident.
She was hit by a car while attending a birthday party, and that has kept her family working hard like this to make sure she gets back to where she was before.
Fortunately, things are looking up. Even Monday morning, her mom, Lena, says there are signs that she's continuing on that road to recovery, against all odds.
“When we woke her up, she stretched her arms like kids do, and it's new and it was great. We're like, 'wow.' It's little tiny things, but it makes us feel better. Of course, we have hope," Lena shared.
Now, a local group is selling t-shirts to raise money for the family.
The Pilipenkos say they'd like to buy a van so they can take Eliza on trips. Right now she can only be transported in an ambulance.
"We hope that when it gets warmer and Eliza gets stronger, it will be a huge thing for us to have a van like that," Lena continued.
It's just one more step toward getting her back to where she was before that accident.
