Will Rockingham County school employees receive bonuses this year?
That's something the school board would like to see happen.
The Rockingham County School Board passed a motion Monday night to ask the Board of Supervisors if school employees could get that bonus.
Board members say this would happen only if the county supervisors find a surplus of money at the end of the year.
Dan Breeden, the chairman of the school board, says school employees haven't seen a raise in years.
He says the school board trusts that the county supervisors would allow for these bonuses if it's actually feasible.
"We know that they do a tremendous job in supporting us, and so we're not trying to put pressure on them, just trying to suggest that we would be very much in favor of that if it were available," said Breeden.
Breeden says as the economy picks back up, the board hopes this bonus is possible. He says it would be a flat bonus, not based on a percentage of income.
